A high number of migratory birds was still detected duringthe monitoringof avifauna in the lastdays of October – usually these are rather scarce in this period – such as the reed warbler or theyellow wagtail, the Northern wheatearor whinchat. There are situations thatcontinue to surpriseus.

Although it iscommon to seeyoungbirdssuch as the common moorhenorthe purple gallinure, it isnot usualto see twodifferent pairsofgreat crested grebein reproduction in the middle of October. Observing this type of behaviour in September (given the fact that such behaviour does nothappen in this period usually)have resulted in the appearanceof chickens, two and three, respectively.
But not everything is about mild temperature. As we mentionedin a previous post, it is essential to find goodqualityhabitat and food. Inthe case of the great crested grebe,maintaining water levels in the constructed wetlandshelp ensure that theirnest does notmiscarry.
