Actions

The project development includes the following actions:

Preparatory actions (Action A1) to compile information on the previous performance of the artificial wetlands and their environmental effects, in order to define the management strategy.

Implementation actions (Action B) to implement the management strategy proposed in the preparatory actions. An assessment will be carried out as well as the analysis of the obtained results through integrating water quality and biodiversity indicators. Management guidelines to operate the wetlands will be drafted and optimal management recommendations will be established so that they can be considered, if applicable, in the territorial management plans of the Natura 2000 Network and the Hydrological Management Plans.

Monitoring impact of management on water quality (Action C1) by determining water quality modification as it runs through the artificial wetlands.

Monitoring impact of management on biodiversity (Action C2) by carrying out a follow-up of avifauna and ichthyofauna. A global vision of water management effects on biological groups and both, the bird community and habitats, will be obtained.

Monitoring socio-economic impact on local economy and population (Action C3) by developing an assessment of the effects of artificial wetlands on local economic activities and populations’ perception.

Communication and Dissemination actions (Action D). Information (Action D1), Participation (Action D2) and International Dissemination (Action D3) campaigns will be carried out in order to work at different levels according to the target audience: social stakeholders in the Natural Park, general public and a sector specialised in wetland management and conservation, which might put into practice the lessons learned in the project and disseminate the information.
